From the first time I heard “The Dark Side of the Moon” in 1974, I’ve been a keen fan of Pink Floyd. Listening to tribute bands has also brought a lot of pleasure too and I first heard Think Floyd at my local theatre The Hall For Cornwall several year ago and then again in 2017 so when I got the news that Think Floyd were planning to tour with “The Wall” I immediately went looking for tickets...the local theatre has closed for 2 years for a major re-structure and my next nearest was Taunton in January – already sold out except for two poor seats, next up was Swindon with my favourite seat, 8 or 10 rows back and dead centre of the the stage. Bingo! Seats booked....its a long way to travel with an overnight stay but my wife and I made the effort – we were not disappointed....
I thought that all we’d have was “The Wall” itself with an interval but what a treat! Several other Floyd numbers to start off, then The Wall part one, an interval and the second half of The Wall bookended with another set of tracks – and special mention here of the superb vocals of Rosie Osborne on vocals in “The Great Gig In the Sky”.. absolutely superb and note perfect, easily the best I’ve heard and well up to the standard of Clare Torry on the original recording.
And so to “THE WALL” itself....what can I say ABSOLUTELY SUPERB from start to finish!!! I most thoroughly enjoyed the entire performance ….nothing I can say can relay how great it was....we have to single out, of course, “Comfortably Numb”, this was a quite superlative performance and was equally enjoyable to me as the two most recent releases on DVD/CD; Rogers world tour of “The Wall 2012/13/14 and David’s “Pompeii” gig, I saw both of these recordings at the cinema (which in some ways is better that at the gig itself, you can see and hear everything in great detail), and this performance by Think Floyd stands up to and is equal to both of the aforementioned, I absolutely LOVED it and the lighting Fx were also superb.
Speaking of the lighting, I must also praise the excellent lighting engineered by Peter Marland, and being a retired sound engineer, I have to congratulate Paul Jennings on an absolutely great sound performance, the audio quality of the instruments was great – especially the sound of the drum kit – the kick drum was brilliant! And although the sound was loud it wasn’t too loud, not distorted and I could hear every instrument and vocal very, very clearly – top marks Paul!!
In conclusion, all I can say is that if you’re tempted to go and see the band DO IT, you won’t be disappointed, Think Floyd are definitely the closest sound to the original Pink Floyd sound and definitely better than a certain other Tribute band – I think they come from “down under???” …TOO LOUD,MAN!
